Pictures of Thailand
After Singapore we went to Thailand, first to Phuket, which was okay and in which I got sick.Patong was nuts, kind of stinky and very noisy and messy and the beach was super crowded and the water was muddy and there were aggressively marketed ping pong shows down the same street where you could pay to have people spank you.
Now that I know turquoise ocean exists I’m ruined for any other type of ocean and Patong was interesting but it was very overstimulating. We found the color ocean I was looking for 15 minutes down the road at Karon Beach which was beautiful but where I didn’t take any pictures that were any good. That bring us to Ko Lanta! Which is an Island in the Krabi region, a boat ride from Phuket. This picture is an island on the way to Ko Lanta.
Here’s some pictures from Phi Phi island where we stopped to change boats and buy delicious Chang beer at the 7 Eleven carefully crab walking with our backpacks to squeeze around the 500 other backpackers doing the same thing.
The bay had all the long boats lined up to give tourists tours:
We got on a new boat and got to Ko Lanta and took a tuk-tuk (here called tricycles) to the place we were staying in time for sunset, so we walked right across the street to the beach.
I brought the tripod I’ve been lugging everywhere and got some long exposure water shots. Great practice, okay pictures.
I noticed Heather was silhouetting really nicely with the sunset, and that the low light was causing some pretty neat vignetting totally naturally. I set the tripod back up and with some coaching and great modeling from Heather got these pictures which I think look pretty cool. Photography pro tip: never leave home without your professional model.
We walked down the beach looking for food, there were restaurants lined up all with front entrances on the road, and back entrances on the beach with tables and chairs set up right in the sand.
Had some pretty delicious dinner and then went home and to bed.
The next day we rented an automatic scooter and cruised around exploring and looking for a dive shop. On our way back after finding a nice beach to swim in we stopped on a beach where you could see the rain from a storm splitting the horizon.
Then more dinner on the beach, this time at a place with great Tripadvisor reviews for their homemade fish finger sandwich. They also had some hilariously passive aggressive responses to any Tripadvisor review that was less than 4 stars.
Then we went diving at Ko Haa with GoLanta Diving. The site was pretty stunning and the diving was crystal clear.
Then after much deliberation about our next destination we packed up and headed out for the Philippines!
